Portfolio

Summerset at Frick Park

Building upon our legacy of innovative development, Summerset at Frick Park is one of the nation’s first and largest brownfields transformed for residential use. This 238-acre former industrial site has been reclaimed as a beautiful new urban residential development with the feel of a traditional Pittsburgh neighborhood.

Working with the Urban Redevelopment Authority, our partnership facilitated the redevelopment of the site to enable building of the most significant new residential development in the City of Pittsburgh since World War II. Our investment in the project was instrumental in creating public open space, including a 100-acre extension of Frick Park, as well as the restoration of Nine Mile Run. In addition, the development has leveraged federal and local government investment in infrastructure and environmental cleanup, ensuring that the area is ideal for living and recreation.

Summerset at Frick Park marks the completion of the second phase of the site. Located just minutes from downtown Pittsburgh, Summerset at Frick Park features energy efficient homes in a walkable, close-knit traditional neighborhood. With quality construction and pedestrian friendly sustainable design, the beautiful urban streetscape is enhanced by numerous parklets and adjacency to Pittsburgh’s treasured Frick Park trails, parks and river views. Ample open green space and convenient retail access complement this highly desirable development.

Washington's Landing

Washington’s Landing, formerly known as Herr’s Island, is a 42-acre island on the western banks of the Allegheny River located approximately two miles from Pittsburgh’s Central Business District. It is one of the area’s first mixed-use riverfront developments. The reclamation of this brownfield site has been a model for urban redevelopment both regionally and nationally. The site encompasses office space, space for research, development and light assembly; a full service marina, luxury townhomes, a rowing and health club; public parks, tennis courts and a jogging trail.

On Washington’s Landing, we partnered with the Urban Redevelopment Authority of the City of Pittsburgh, as well as other community stakeholders, to transform an industrial island into one of the region’s most desirable locations to live, work and play. Washington’s Landing is just one example of our many public/private partnerships and brownfield redevelopment projects for which our dedicated team has become known.

Alcoa Business Services Center

Attracting and maintaining a talented and sophisticated work force will continue to transform the Pittsburgh region. We recognize the significance of creating attractive and efficient workplaces where teamwork and innovation will thrive. Measuring approximately 228,000 s.f. of Class A office space, the Alcoa Business Services Center surpassed client expectations and was completed on schedule and within budget.

Alcoa, Inc. selected Rubinoff through a national competitive bidding process to build the Alcoa Business Services Center. The office building was designed with Alcoa’s input to reflect its culture and accommodate its business services operations. The Center features employee-focused layouts with abundant natural light and open floor plans. The building is conveniently located in close proximity to Alcoa’s headquarters building on Pittsburgh’s North Shore.

Uber Advanced Technology Center

Located on a site formerly used for the manufacture of electric arc furnaces, the 32nd Street Business Center is another example of the transformation of a reclaimed brownfield site into productive commercial real estate. In 2000, we developed a two-building warehouse and distribution facility. In 2015, we worked with Uber Advanced Technologies Center to transform one of the buildings into Uber’s new riverfront home for the development and advancement of driverless cars. The development is ideally located on the river and at the intersection of the evolving Strip District and Lawrenceville, and perfectly situated for adaptation for Pittsburgh’s new technology workforce.

51st Street Business Center

We’re proud of our history as a leader in transforming properties by developing “flex” parks in the Pittsburgh area. Our flex business parks accommodate offices, R&D centers, distribution, assembly, manufacturing and warehouse uses, and retail. The 51st Street Business Center is located in Lawrenceville, minutes from Pittsburgh’s Strip District and main highway Route 28.

Working with Goodwill of Southwestern PA, we transformed the 51st Street site into offices for Goodwill’s Regional Headquarters, its Workforce Development program and one of the organization’s retail outlets. The headquarters building features a two-story light-filled atrium. It houses the agency’s services and programs, including critical employment training, job search assistance, adult education, computer recycling and the Good-to-Go Café.

Richard K. Rubinoff

Founder

The Rubinoff Company was founded by Richard (Dick) Rubinoff in 1983 to develop, manage and invest in commercial and light industrial real estate properties. Under Dick’s direction, The Rubinoff Company evolved to lead the redevelopment of post industrial “brownfields” sites on Pittsburgh’s riverfronts, transforming them into attractive, tax generating multi-use developments for Pittsburgh to live, work and play.

Peter J. Mahoney, CPM

Vice President and Director of Operations

Pete joined The Rubinoff Company in November 2007 and has overseen all activities related to the management of approximately 2 million square feet including office towers and suburban office properties, industrial, flex space, medical office, retail, mixed-use and more than 1,000 residential units in The Rubinoff Company’s portfolio.

Pete has over 20 years of real estate management experience that covers operations, financial management, construction management, development, leasing and marketing. Pete holds the Certified Property Manager (CPM) designation through the Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM).

Caryn B. Rubinoff

President

As President of The Rubinoff Company, Caryn is responsible for directing and overseeing all aspects of the company’s commercial and residential portfolio including leasing, management, operations and marketing. Ms. Rubinoff began her career as a real estate attorney in New York City before returning to Pittsburgh to work with her father in 1997. Caryn helped to lead the development of Summerset at Frick Park which now includes over 500 homes, including site acquisition, financing, entitlements, Act 2 clearance and HOA formation. She is the Broker of Record for The Rubinoff Company.

Active in the Pittsburgh’s real estate, civic and cultural communities, Caryn serves on the boards of The Carnegie Museum of Art and the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust. Appointed by former Pittsburgh Mayor Tom Murphy, Caryn was a founding member of Riverlife, an organization dedicated to the reclamation, restoration and promotion of Pittsburgh’s riverfronts. Caryn is a member of the International
Women’s Forum and a former member of the Pennsylvania Council of the Arts (appointed by Governor Ed Rendell) and has served on the Advisory Board of S&T Bank and the boards of Point Park University, The Mattress Factory, Quantum Theatre, United Jewish Federation and Jewish Residential Services.
